Tips on Raising a Reader

TRY AS POSSIBLE TO BE EXPRESSIVE
Be creative by adopting different characters in the story and employing the use of changing sounds to suit different characters and exclamations on possible conditions. This grants the child highest level of reception hence giving them the understanding.
READ TOGETHER WITH YOUR CHILD
During the times that you are reading, give the child some piece too or a book to read. Read to him or her what he or she is not capable to read. This may trigger her or him to imitate you and know that reading is important.
TOUCH THE TEXT WHEN READING TO THEM
When moving your finger below the texts when reading for a child depicts to them that the symbols have got meanings and interesting stories in them. This will always make them anxious to read.
CREATE A TIME FOR READING
Create a specific time for reading. Don’t just surprise them with reading sessions. This will make them prepared enough for the session.
GIVE THE CHILD OPPORTUNITY TO BECOME TEACHERS
Let the child show other children what they do not know ho to read and fix. This will always expound their reading knowledge.
LABEL MATERIALS
Try as much as possible to label materials such as cups, kettles and many more in your house. This will engage the child actively in reading.
MAKE A CONNECTION
Try to create a connection for your children. For instance try to help them connect letters to come up with words and sentences. Show them images and let them name the images. Show them connections to real life situations such traffic signs. This gives them quick mastery of letters and words.
CREATE SOME FUN
Develop some fun during the reading session. This will always make the child to have a greater atittude for reading.
NEVER GET RID OF BOOKS THEY LOVE
Always keep the books your children love. Getting rid of them may make the reading session boring for them.
LOOK UP THE ANSWERS TO THEIR QUESTIONS
Try as much as possible to research answers to the question they ask that you do not know the answer. This will make them feel that reading is the greatest source of information they want.
